The second edition of the Rugby World Cup was held in Britain, Ireland and France in October 1991. The opening match and the final were both held in Tickenham and both resulted in defeats for the hosts England. New Zealand were the winners of the opening match and would go on to the semi final where they would be defeated by a David Campese inspired Australia. Australia lifted the trophy in Tiwckenham after overcoming England.
